38 Years Young

Here are the pictures from the airshow! It was so much fun. We love the airshow. It was fun going on all the planes and see the different plane acrobatics. This is a huge transport plane that carries people and equipment. I think it is one of those they drop stuff out of with the little chutes to float stuff down where it is needed.

Alan got earplugs for everyone to wear. The kids thought they were pretty fun. Sarah got an Air Force hat to wear from a guy walking around. She is wearing her NASA sticker proudly too!

Waiting in line for lunch.

Daniel just wanted to eat his frozen lemonade. I think that is Jacob's elbow.

It was an incredible day. We certainly live in a beautiful place. The crowds were out of control! The sea of people just goes on forever. The temperature was about 75 I think and we just loved walking around looking at everything. The kids got lots of cool Air Force give away stuff too.

They played the National Anthem as the parachuters came down. The last guy was coming down with the flag. It was really cool. I shed a tear or two in honor of our country's heros.

I think this is an Apache helicopter.

I turned 38 last Sunday and had a nice day. It was fun to just putter around the house and relax. There really wasn't anything I wanted for my birthday. I have discovered as I get older, the things I want are really not doable, i.e. world peace, debt free, 20lbs lighter. You know, the elusive dreams. I did get a very cute beach cruiser bike from the family and have used it almost everyday since getting it.
The present I gave myself was the most awesome birthday cake ever! I worked on it for most of the day on saturday and wasn't disappointed when it came time to eat it. I love chocolate and raspberries. So I made a devil's food cake that I added plum syrup to then chilled while I made the filling and the frosting. I cooked up some fresh raspberry filling and then made chocolate ganash to pour over the entire cake. But not before adding a layer of chocolate mouse inside. It was a two layer cake filled with chocolate mouse and a layer of raspberry jam, then covered in chocolate ganash and chilled until set. I took a picture. I had one of those "look what I made!" moments and am still pretty thrilled with the results. It tastes like $5 a piece cake too. There is something else I can cross off my "I want to try to make it list".

Thanks to everyone wishing me a Happy Birthday. I appreciate the sentiments.
