As mentioned in my previous post, I am now the proud owner of a Health Rider. It is one of those aerobic machines that you sit on and pull with your hands while pushing with your feet. No one looks cool on this thing while working out but I have been surprised at how aerobic a work out you get in just 20 minutes. I was getting on it everyday with wild ambitions of reclaiming the body I once had [in my youth]. I started out slowly and was up to 20 minutes a day when I got the bright idea of joining our ward's women's basketball team. Now, I realize I am short. Perhaps really short, but I have heart and the athletic mind of an 18 year old. Even though my body is that of a sleep deprived, stressed out, slightly overweight 37 year old. I had grand illusions of racing down the court like Michael Jordan and making the winning basket. Let me emphasize, they were extrodinary grand illlusions. The first run down the court about wiped me out. I perservered through my gasps for air and 5 minutes later was thrown the ball. I panicked and clumsily threw the ball at the basket. I missed of course and promptly felt a searing pain in my shoulder. I didn't feel the tissue tear but it moved in a very unatural way. I nursed the pain for week and then when my head cold got so bad that I had to be checked for strep throat, I casually mentioned to the doctor my shoulder was bothering me. After some painful pokes and yanks he said I pulled the tendon in my shoulder that is attached to my bicep. I am sure the women on the team (who actually know how to play basketball and are taller) will be crushed they have lost me so early in the season, but I am sure with counseling and medication they will overcome the loss.
This brings me back to my Health Rider. It is now sitting in my living room mocking me. I have another week to go before I can start using my shoulder again. So I will start over again with my journey back to my body. Most days I look at myself in the mirror thrilled because I just buttoned my jeans and it didn't take my breath away to do it. I suppose I look the way I should as I approach mid life and as long as I don't need help going to the toilet I consider myself a triumph of health and vitality! I am sure the Health Rider will one day find its way back to the D.I. for someone else to try out, but for now I am going to use this thing until my butt doesn't spill out over the seat. My goal now is not to be 18 again, but to not jiggle so much when I walk. I think it is more achievable and doesn't require a scale.

Oh my heck you seriously hurt your shoulder? Your shot was awesome (almost in!) and I am so sorry that you are injured. If it makes you feel any better we won tonight by a lot and I made several 3 pointers. I'm lying! The other team forfitted so we did win and we didn't even break a sweat! Feel better!
LOL! Your ward is certainly missing their key player....as they would be if I were trying to play! Being height impaired is not for the weak! I went for the junior high basketball team, made it (only because I was short and fast), but have never seen so many girl belly buttons in my life (although it is a toss up here being with all of our tall sis-in-laws, that have legs that go for miles)! Sorry to hear about your shoulder, I hope it get's better soon! I have a tattle for you.....Jamey broke into your chocolates the other day. He thought you wouldn't notice! Please email him some grief! Maybe we will mail you the chocolates and you can mail Jamey the health rider! :)
Hope you feel better soon!
I am so sorry to hear about your shoulder. That sucks. You area quite the motivation. And the Health Rider... awesome, if you even take the Health Rider to DI again and want a VERY nice, very expensive weight machine, we have one that makes a great whatever hanger (clothes, dust, etc.). I hope you feel better soon and get back out there to kick some other Ward Mormon buttocks. ;)
